All of the sightings (records) submitted through the Spot the Alien recording scheme go through a validation and verification procedure.
Validation: Your record will be reviewed by Data Centre staff to make sure that the fields are filled in correctly and that the coordinates match the location name given.
Verification: all validated records are sent on to Dr. Roy Anderson and Dr. Archie Murchie to check the identity of the species photo submitted and against known occurrences records if they exist.

All verified records will be periodically loaded to the National Invasive Species Database and made available online via Biodiversity Maps. Regular up-dates on the scheme will be given on the National Invasive Species Database website
