Priority Invasive Species

To maximise  effectiveness of the National Invasive Species Database, it will initially prioritise collection and display of records for priority species.

The total number of  priority invasive and potentially invasive species present in Ireland is 86.  For convenience, this has been divided into separate Plant (59 species) and Non-plant (27) species lists.  Click buttons to download the lists.

If you see any of these species please take a record of them and submit the records to the National Invasive Species Database. To access the interactive GIS distribution maps of  species with records currently in the database just click the Species Search image.

The priority species list is compiled from two different sources:

  1. Invasive Species Ireland (ISI)- ISI-risk assessment.  Those listed as Most unwanted are classified as iinvasive species.  Amber list are species that may become invasive and need to be monitored.
  2. Problematic Plant list

There is an overlap of some species from the two different sources.

Also, keep a vigilant eye out for Potential Invaders.
