What will the Data Centre deliver?
The National Biodiversity Data Centre is responsible for the development of the aquatic component of the National Invasive Species Database.
The objectives of the project are:
- To establish an aquatic component of the National Invasive Species Database. This will be maintained and updated by the Data Centre on a long-term basis.
- To capture all known valid records for the STRIVE aquatic invasive species.
- To prepare a GIS map layer of the location of such species to be displayed by river system and lake catchment units. Value will be added to the maps when they are displayed against the other National Biodiversity Data Centre GIS layers.
- To publically display the information via the National Biodiversity Data Centre’s web system to help inform research, assessment of spread, monitoring and control options.
- To provide an efficient mechanism for this information to be updated.
