NOBANIS
NOBANIS is a European network on Invasive Alien Species that provides a gateway to information on Invasive Alien Species in Europe. Colette O’ Flynn at the National Biodiversity Data Centre is one of four NOBANIS national contact points in the island of Ireland.
The role of the Data Centre
- Information from the National Invasive Species Database is submitted to the NOBANIS European database.
- Regular input into the regular review of existing NOBANIS species fact sheets and the development of new ones
- Input and support into formulating the basis of an invasive species Early Warning System for Europe
- Continual communication and information sharing with the other participating NOBANIS countries in relation to many invasive species issues of concern to Ireland, Europe and internationally.
The current participating NOBANIS countries
Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Faroe Islands, Finland, Germany, Greenland, Iceland, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, European part of Russia, Slovakia, Svalbard and Jan Meyen and Sweden.
On June 1-2, 2010 the National Biodiversity Data Centre hosted the European workshop on Developing an early warning system for invasive alien species (IAS) based on the NOBANIS database. To download the recommendations from the workshop click here.
